Why You Might Need It
Two-factor is optional for reading the site and required for two things. You cannot list a server without it, and you cannot be handed one either, because a listing is something people can lose control of and the account holding it has to be hard to take over.
Turning It On
- Step 1. Open Settings on the main site
- Step 2. Find two-factor authentication and enter your password
- Step 3. Scan the QR code with an authenticator app
- Step 4. Type the six digit code the app shows and press Confirm
- Step 5. Save the backup codes on the screen that follows
It is not on until a code is accepted. Scanning the QR code and closing the page leaves it switched off, which is the commonest way somebody ends up thinking they are covered when they are not.
Backup Codes
The codes appear once, after the setup is confirmed, and each one works a single time. They are the way back into your account if you lose the authenticator, so keep them somewhere that is not the phone the app is on.
If You Lose the Authenticator
Sign in with a backup code, then turn two-factor off and on again to pair a new app. If the codes have gone as well, contact us from the email address on the account.
Turning It Off
Settings again, and it asks for your password. Any listing you already own stays yours, but nobody can transfer you a new one until two-factor is back on.
