Uploading a Skin

What You Can Upload

A Minecraft skin you made, or one you are allowed to publish. Uploads appear in the gallery under your name and anybody can download them, so only upload something you are happy to hand out.

The Limits

All of these are checked at upload, so it saves time to know them before you pick a file.

  • A PNG or JPEG, under 1 MB
  • A title between 3 and 60 characters
  • Between 1 and 10 keywords
  • Each keyword 2 to 24 characters, using letters, numbers, spaces and dashes

Keywords are how anybody actually finds a skin, because a title on its own rarely matches what somebody types into a search. Describe what it looks like rather than repeating what you named it.

Uploading

  • Step 1. Sign in and open the Skins page
  • Step 2. Press Upload
  • Step 3. Choose the file
  • Step 4. Give it a title and at least one keyword
  • Step 5. Upload

The same file twice under one account is refused. If you have tweaked a skin and want both versions up, they have to be genuinely different files.

What Happens Next

It goes live immediately with no review queue. That is deliberate, because a queue means nothing ever gets uploaded, and we would rather remove the occasional bad upload than make everybody wait for the good ones.

We delist anything that breaks the rules, which in practice means somebody else's work published as your own, or content with no business being on a site this many children use.

Uploading a Skin Is Not Wearing One

The gallery is a place to publish and find skins. It does not change the skin you wear in game, which is done in Minecraft's own dressing room, and it is not connected to your Xbox account.
