Custom servers cannot be added to Switch, Playstation 4 & Playstation 5, as well as Xbox One & Xbox Series X/S. Please see our BedrockConnect tutorial for those platforms.
Why You Would Do This
Most of the time you won't need to. Every listing on LecternMC has an Add server button that hands the details to Minecraft for you, and that's faster than typing anything.
Adding by hand is for everything else. A friend's server that nobody has listed, a small community you were invited to, or a device that ignored the handoff and left you sitting in a browser. It's also how you get the server to show up under a name you chose rather than the one on the listing.
Adding the Server
Have the address and the port in front of you before you start, because the game asks for both.
- Step 1. Open Minecraft and press Play
- Step 2. Go to the Servers tab
- Step 3. Scroll to the bottom of the list and press Add Server
- Step 4. Server Name is a label for you, so put whatever you'll recognise
- Step 5. Server Address is the address on its own, with no http:// in front of it
- Step 6. Port is 19132 unless you were given a different one
- Step 7. Press Save, and the server appears at the bottom of your Servers list
Getting the Address Right
Most of what goes wrong at this point is the address, not the server.
An address written as play.example.com:19132 is two pieces of information stuck together. The part before the colon goes in Server Address and the number after it goes in Port, so putting the whole thing in one box won't connect.
LecternMC leaves the port off a listing when it's the standard 19132, so an address shown with no number after it means you can leave Port alone.
Once the server is saved, joining it is the same as joining any other. If it still won't connect, the address is probably fine and something else is in the way, which Joining a Server from LecternMC covers at the end.
