The Symptom
Every server fails rather than one. You can play on your own, the game works, and any server you try bounces you with a message that does not really explain itself.
Worth ten seconds before anything else: try a second, unrelated server. One failing is that server's problem. All of them failing is your account.
Why Xbox Is Involved at All
Bedrock multiplayer runs through Xbox Live even when the server has nothing to do with Microsoft. If the account is not permitted to join multiplayer games, every server is refused before it is ever contacted.
That is why the failure looks like a network problem and is not one. Nothing is wrong with the address, the server or your connection.
What to Check
- That you are actually signed in to Xbox Live inside Minecraft, not just on the device
- That the account is allowed to join multiplayer games
- For a child account, that an adult in the family group has allowed it
These live in the Xbox account's privacy and online safety settings, which you can reach from a browser or from a console's own settings. We are not printing a menu path here because Microsoft moves it, and a wrong path is worse than none.
Child Accounts
An account registered to a child usually starts with multiplayer switched off, and it stays off until an adult changes it. The child cannot change it themselves, however many times they try.
The account also has to belong to a Microsoft family group before an adult has anything to change. If it is not in one, that is the first step rather than the settings screen.
After You Change It
Sign out of Xbox Live in Minecraft and back in again before deciding it did not work. A change made elsewhere does not always reach a game that is already running, and a restart costs less than an evening of guessing.
