Leaving a Review

What a Review Is

A rating from one to five stars, with an optional comment of up to a thousand characters. It is published under your gamertag rather than your username, because a rating means more when it comes from somebody who plays.

Reviews are 40 percent of a server's rating. Votes are the other 60, and the two say different things: a vote means somebody came back, a review says what it was like.

You Need a Linked Xbox Account

This one is not optional. A review needs the gamertag to be proved, so an account without an Xbox link cannot leave one at all.

An email address takes a minute to make and an Xbox account does not, which is the whole reason the requirement is there. Linking Your Xbox Account covers the setup, and it takes about as long as reading this.

Writing a review connects your gamertag to your account publicly, because the review is posted under it. If you had the profile toggle switched off, this is the thing that overrides it.

Leaving One

  • Step 1. Open the server's listing
  • Step 2. Choose a rating from one to five
  • Step 3. Add a comment if you have something to say
  • Step 4. Submit

Changing or Removing It

You get one review per server, and leaving another one replaces what was there rather than adding a second. That means changing your mind is just leaving the review again with a different rating.

Clearing the comment and leaving only a rating works too, and there is a remove option if you would rather take the whole thing down. Your own reviews are listed under your account.

Why Yours Might Be Refused

  • You own the listing, and nobody can review their own server
  • Your Xbox account is not linked yet
  • You are leaving them faster than the rate limit allows

What Makes a Review Useful

Say what happened rather than how you felt about it. Somebody deciding whether to spend an evening on a server is helped by queue times, how full it gets, whether staff answered you and whether the gamemodes match the listing, and is not helped by a single word.

Paying for reviews loses a server its listing. If somebody offers you something in exchange for one, they are risking the listing you would be reviewing.
