What Our Status Actually Means
We ping the address ourselves and record whether anything answered. Online means something did, which is a much smaller claim than it looks.
It says nothing about whether that server will let you in, and the reading can be a few minutes old, so a server that went down a moment ago still shows as up.
Reasons a Live Server Turns You Away
- It is full, which the listing shows as a player count against a maximum
- It is whitelisted, and you are not on the list
- It is in maintenance and only letting staff in
- It is running a version of the game yours is not
The version one is the most common issue and the least obvious. Bedrock updates roll out in waves, so your game and the server can be a version apart for anywhere from hours to days at a time, and the message you get does not always make that clear.
If You Cannot Join Any Server
Then it is almost certainly not the server. Multiplayer on Bedrock runs through Xbox Live, so a setting on your Xbox account can block every server at once while the game says something vague about the connection.
- Check you are actually signed in to Xbox Live inside Minecraft
- Check that joining multiplayer games is allowed on the account's privacy settings
- If it is a child account, check the family group settings, because multiplayer is often off by default there
This is worth ruling out first when nothing works anywhere. Trying a second server takes ten seconds and tells you whether the problem is one server or your account.
When the Listing Says Offline
The address did not answer at all, and there is nothing on your end to fix. Either the server is down or the listing is pointing at an address that is no longer right.
A listing that has been offline for days is usually one nobody has updated. If you know the server is alive somewhere else, the owner needs to edit the listing.
Who to Tell
The server's own staff, through whatever they use. We can tell you the address answered and nothing more, and we have no reach inside a server to see why it turned you away.
If the listing itself is wrong, that half is ours, so tell us about that.
