Advertising Pays for It
The site is free, there is no paid tier, and listing a server costs nothing. What pays the bills is the advertising you see on the pages. (Don't notice any ads? We're probably in the middle of setting it up...)
Who Serves the Ads
Google, through AdSense. They choose which advertisements appear and they can set cookies to make that choice, which is the ordinary arrangement across most of the web.
The first time you visit, a prompt from Google asks how you feel about that. Your answer controls what they do, and you can change it later.
What the Ad System Does Not Get
Player data. Gamertags, Xbox IDs and skins are not handed to advertisers, are not used to target anything, and are not sold.
The advertising is the untargeted-by-us kind, where Google decides what to show and we simply have a page for it to appear on.
That is a commitment about what we do with the data we hold. Google's own advertising cookies are Google's, and the controls for those live at their end, which is what the consent prompt is for.
Cookies
Three kinds, and that is the whole list. One keeps you signed in, one is set by the advertising, and one remembers what you answered about the advertising so you are not asked on every page.
Counting Visits
We use Google Analytics to see how many people arrive and which pages they read. That is used for deciding what to build and what to write, and it is not connected to any player profile.
Turning It Down
You can change your consent answer at any time from the prompt, control Google's advertising cookies at https://adssettings.google.com, and opt out across many networks at https://optout.networkadvertising.org.
None of that stops the site working. Everything here is readable with the advertising cookies refused.
The Privacy Policy on the main site is the binding version of all of this, and it has the detail this page skips.
