Why Your Gamertag Is Here

How It Got Here

One of two ways, and both of them started somewhere other than us.

  • A server you played on runs our reporting API and told us about the players it saw
  • Somebody searched your gamertag here, and a public lookup found that it exists

Nothing came from Microsoft. We are not connected to them, we cannot ask them anything about you, and we cannot go through a list of Xbox accounts. If you are here, something showed us.

Why Java Players Have It Different

On Java Edition, Mojang publish a lookup themselves. Anybody can ask their servers which account holds a username and get back an identifier and the skin, with no key and nobody's permission, which is why lookup sites for Java have existed for over a decade.

Bedrock has nothing equivalent. A Bedrock identity is an Xbox account, and Xbox does not hand those out, so the only way anybody can build the same picture is from servers that saw you playing and from a community lookup that resolves a gamertag.

That is why we know less about you than a Java site knows about a Java player. We cannot ask what your skin is today, we cannot confirm anything on demand, and we only know the moments something reported to us.

Even on Java, Mojang stopped publishing name history in 2022. Any site showing a Java player's old names is showing what it recorded itself over the years, which is exactly what a name history here is too.

So, what do we hold?

A gamertag, an Xbox ID and a skin. That is what every player in the same game already sees, and it is the whole of it.

There is no email address, no password, no location, no age, no messages, and no way for anybody to contact you through this site.

Why It Works This Way

A profile starts from a sighting, and there is no way to reach a Bedrock player before a server reports seeing them. So the control you have over it sits after the fact, and it is real control: anybody can have their profile taken down, and most profiles are kept out of search engines in the meantime.

Most Profiles Are Not in Search Engines

Around 98.7 percent of player profiles tell search engines not to index them, because a page carrying a name and a date is not worth anybody's attention.

That does not make a profile private, since anybody with the address can open it. It does mean a profile is unlikely to be what somebody finds when they search your gamertag on the open web.

Having It Removed

Anybody can ask, and the answer is yes. If you link your Xbox account it is self-service and immediate, because the link is what proves the gamertag is yours.

If you would rather not link anything, contact us and we will do it by hand. A parent asking about a child does not need an account and does not need to prove anything to us.

Removal is permanent. The page and everything recorded against it are deleted, and what stays is a one-way marker so a server reporting you later cannot rebuild it.
