Passwords
We never see your Microsoft password. Signing in with Microsoft happens on Microsoft's own pages, and what comes back to us is the fact that it worked, not what you typed.
If you made an account here with an email and a password, that password is stored hashed. A hash can check whether a password is right without being readable as one, so nobody here can look yours up, including us.
Your Email Address
We hold the address you signed up with, and it is never published. It is used to send the code that verifies the account, and to reach you about your own account if we have to.
It is not shown on your profile, not attached to anything you post, and not visible to another member.
Your Xbox Link
If you link an Xbox account we hold the Xbox ID and the gamertag. We do not publish that the two are connected unless you turn that on yourself, write a server review, or vote for a server.
What Is Public
Only the things you chose to put out, which is a short list.
- Your LecternMC username
- A profile picture, if you uploaded one
- Skins you upload
- Servers you list
- Reviews you write, which appear under your gamertag
The Technical Records
Some things get recorded because the site cannot work without them.
- A signed-in session stores the address you connected from and your browser's description of itself
- A vote records the connection it came from, which is how the daily cap per address is enforced
- Server logs, kept for about 30 days
None of that is sold, and none of it is published. It is there to keep an account yours and to stop one person voting fifty times.
Player Data Is a Separate Thing
Everything above is about an account you made. A player profile is different: it is the gamertag, Xbox ID and skin a server reported, and it can exist without anybody ever making an account.
Removing a Player Profile covers taking that down, and it does not touch your account. Deleting an account and removing a player profile are two separate actions on two separate things.
The Privacy Policy on the main site carries the full detail, including the legal basis for each of these. This article is the plain version rather than a replacement for it.
