What Verified Means

What the Mark Says

Somebody here looked at the listing and confirmed it describes the server you would actually reach. That is the whole of the claim, and it is a claim about the listing rather than about the server.

What It Does Not Say

  • That we recommend the server
  • That it is well moderated, or suitable for any particular age
  • That it is any good
  • Anything at all about how it treats the people playing on it

A verified server can still be one you dislike. How Far We Check a Server covers where our checking stops, and it stops a long way short of an opinion.

Why an Owner Might Want It

There is one hard reason and one soft one. The hard reason is that a listing has to be verified before it can hold an API key, so anybody wanting to report player data from their server needs it first.

The soft reason is that it reads as a small signal of care to somebody deciding between two listings. It is not worth much on its own, and it is worth nothing if the rest of the listing is thin.

How It Is Given

By hand, by a person (typically a staff member of the LecternMC team), and there is no button for it. It is not on the submit form and there is no field for it in your listing's settings, because a mark an owner could set for themselves would mean nothing to anybody reading it.

What helps is the unglamorous version: an accurate listing, an address that stays up, gamemodes that match what is running, and a bit of history. If you need it because you are applying for an ingest key, say so when you apply and it gets looked at as part of that.

Featured placement works the same way and for the same reason. It is set here, it cannot be bought, and it cannot be requested through the form.

It Can Come Off Again

Verification is a statement that the listing was accurate when somebody checked. If the server moves, changes what it runs, or the listing drifts away from it, the mark goes and the listing is held to the same standard as any other.
